TM 53-70 / Scorpion

The Scorpion 53-70 trailer tower unit is a self-supporting tower mast. It is a mission-ready trailer tower unit, newly engineered from the ground up. It is a self-contained, lightweight mobile trailer unit with an all-aluminum telescoping tower. Employed in missions in Afghanistan and Iraq, the 7,000 lb (3,175 kg) TM 53-70 Scorpion is compact enough for towing by numerous military vehicles, air transported by a C-130, or airlifted by a capable helicopter. Its transport size is 33 ft L x 90 in W x 104 in H (10 m L x 2.3 m W x 2.6 m H).

Self-Supporting Tower

The self-supporting aluminum tower ranges from 30 ft to 106 ft (10 m to 32 m) and can handle up to 80 percent of the payload capacity of most steel towers at 1/3 of the weight. It uses a small deployment footprint of 35.5 ft L x 29 ft W (10.8 m L x 8.8 m W). The TM 53-70 can be deployed within 15 minutes by a two-person team, or within 30 minutes by one person.

 

The TM 53-70 Scorpion is available with Aluma’s patented adjustable tongue coupler design to accommodate varying height tow hitches, common to military tow vehicles such as the MRAP, JLTV and FMTV. The tongue is adjustable every two inches ranging from 22 in (55.9 cm) to 52 in (132 cm) in height, allowing the trailer to be towed by different sized vehicles. It is also equipped with dual galvanized torsion axles rated at 7,000 lb (3,175 kg) each with 16 in (40.6 cm) ST tires, with LT Kevlar tires as an option.
